The Moto Gods Smile Upon us

We're one day to go 'til global DGR day, and someone has been looking out for us.

All week long, the weekend threatened to be a total washout. Especially Sunday, the day of the NYC DGR.

But the Moto Gods have smiled upon us (in more ways than one) and Sunday looks like a perfect day for a ride...seventy or so with a mix of sun and clouds.

We'll take it!

Friends and family have been extremely kind and generous this year. With all of your support, I've managed to raise close to $6,000 for Prostate Cancer research and support for Men's Mental Health.

I made the commitment to match donations, and I've done that. So I'm currently just shy of twelve thousand dollars— the second-highest fundraiser for the NYC DGR. Humbled. Now we just have to ride.

Hal and I have been readying our steeds, primping, polishing and fueling our Triumphs. Our daughters (and pillions) have been styling the 'fits, but you'll have to wait to see our Sunday finest.

Bringing the bikes in to NYC tomorrow; 95/Bruckner/FDR are NOT fun on motorcycles, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

If you're around NYC Sunday, this year's ride concludes with a block party down at Peck Slip Plaza (by the South Street Seaport between South Street and Front Street). Usually a super fun time with a good band, hundreds of bikes, and lots of stylish Gentlefolk. Maybe we'll see you there!

Many you have seen my posts about the DGR in past years. And many of you have kindly supported my ride.

Well, this year it's personal.

Back in 2022, I rode the DGR with a good friend from Westport. He was the instigator for the New York City ride, which I'd never tackled before.

You have to deal with I-95, the Bruckner, the FDR, and all of NYC's crazy drivers and traffic mayhem even before you get to the starting line. It's a major commitment to chaos. 

But we did it, and it as AWESOME. My friend was in the top three DGR fundraisers in NYC, helping deliver important funds for cancer awareness and research.

Well, not long after the ride, my friend had his own unplanned and unforeseen life detour, and wound up dealing with his own cancer journey.

Fucking cancer.

We wanted to ride again last year, but unfortunately my friend's doctors wouldn't give him the green light to ride. 

Now, after a year and a half of battling his nemesis—supported by his awesome family and some innovative treatment—my friend is back in the saddle, with a go-ahead.

So we'll both be riding our Triumphs on May 27 for a triumphant return.

And once again, I will match—dollar for dollar—ANY contributions from friends, family, colleagues, or strangers. You give, I match. All to help beat this body- and soul-robbing bitch called cancer.  

And if you donate, l'd be happy to swing by and give you a ride on the back of my Bonnie at the time of your choice. If you haven't been on a bike, you don't know what you're missing.

I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Wednesday 27th Mar 2024 On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
